The Hull Identification Range (HIN) is a 12- or 14-character serial range that uniquely identifies a ship. The HIN is analogous into a VIN on a vehicle.
The 1st 3 digits will be the Manufacturer’s Identification Code (ex. Boat brand name for example Sea Ray, Meridian, etcetera.). The 4 digits after that tend to be the manufacturer’s serial amount with the boat. The 3rd and 4th digits within the stop would be the day of manufacture. The letter around the day of your manufacture corresponds towards the month on the calendar year, i.e. A = January, B = February, C = March and so forth. The last two digits with the HIN number characterize the product year.
All boats produced or imported on or just after November one, 1972, must bear a HIN, which HIN has to be determined throughout boat registration. Vessels produced or imported ahead of 1972 are EXEMPT as they often do not have a HIN.
The HIN is discovered on a metal or plastic plate, typically on the transom of your boat, ordinarily on the ideal starboard (ideal) aspect with the transom in just two inches of the highest of transom, gunwale, or hull/deck joint, whichever is most affordable.
On vessels with out transoms, or impractical to use transoms, the HIN will likely be affixed to your starboard (appropriate) outboard side of hull, aft, within just just one foot from the stern and within two inches of the best with the hull side, gunwale or hull/deck joint, whichever is cheapest.
